Gene – The basic unit in inheritance. Genes occupy a specific location on a chromosome and determine the characteristics of an organism.

 

Gout – A form of arthritis that occurs when uric acid builds up in the blood and deposits as crystals in the joints and other tissue. A joint, such as the big toe, affected by gout may be excruciatingly painful and shiny and purplish in appearance.

 

Glucosamine – A form of amino sugar that is believed to play a role in cartilage formation and repair. Sold as a dietary supplement, glucosamine is extracted from crab, lobster or shrimp shells. It is widely promoted for relief from osteoarthritis pain and often used in conjunction with another supplement, chondroitin.
